Our Communities
Graffiti Ministries Learning Center serves two of Brooklyn’s most resilient and under-resourced neighborhoods: Coney Island and Brownsville. We began our work in Brownsville in 2011, partnering with local leaders and churches to provide educational support in a neighborhood that has long faced some of the highest poverty rates and lowest high school completion rates in New York City. Brownsville is a place of deep history and strong community bonds — and we’ve seen firsthand how much potential exists when people are given the tools and support they need to succeed.
In 2015, we expanded our GED program to Coney Island, another coastal Brooklyn neighborhood with rich cultural diversity and a history of being overlooked when it comes to educational and workforce resources. Many families in Coney Island struggle with housing instability, underfunded schools, and limited access to adult education opportunities. But what we see every day is courage, persistence, and a hunger to learn.
At Graffiti, we believe that your zip code should not determine your future. That’s why our classes remain free, accessible, and deeply rooted in the neighborhoods we serve. We’re here because these communities matter. We’re here because education changes everything.
